# PauseAI US

> PauseAI US is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) grassroots organization demanding a pause on frontier AI development until it is safe to proceed. We represent the 80% of Americans who want to pause or slow down dangerous AI development.

## About

PauseAI US organizes protests, grassroots lobbying, and local chapter events to demand AI safety regulation from the US government. We are a coalition of Americans of all political affiliations, ages, and backgrounds — from AI experts to concerned citizens.

## What We Do

- **Grassroots Lobbying**: Our volunteers meet with Senators and Congressional representatives to advocate for AI safety legislation including the AI Risk Evaluation Act.
- **Protests and Demonstrations**: We organize public demonstrations at AI company headquarters and on Capitol Hill to raise awareness about the dangers of unregulated AI development.
- **Local Chapters**: We have active chapters in 30+ cities across the United States where volunteers organize tabling, protesting, and community events.
- **Petitions and Campaigns**: We run campaigns urging the US government to support a global AI pause treaty and pass bipartisan AI safety legislation.

## Our Proposals

1. Pass the AI Risk Evaluation Act — bipartisan Senate legislation requiring safety testing for advanced AI releases
2. Support a global AI treaty — international cooperation to pause development of superintelligent AI systems until they can be made safe
3. Establish independent AI oversight — AI companies should not be allowed to police themselves
